Gyokuro

Gyokuro or "Jade Dew" - A Traditional Green Tea

Among the finest of Japanese teas, this shade grown tea has a sweet aroma of buttered greens and seaweed, resulting in an energizing and soothing cup of tea which delights your palate. Typically, this tea spends at least 20 days in the shade before harvest, which produces a sweeter tea, but also allows the caffeine levels to increase in the leaves, and results in leaves that are dark mossy green color. Gyokuro is only obtained from the small tea leaves that are at the top of the plant, where it is most delicate. Gyokuro, when re-steeped multiple times, provides a multi-layered flavor that is rich and mysterious, and grows with each steeping. It truly is unlike any other green tea. Some selective tea drinkers may not like its vegetal flavors and brininess. However, many like this tea to accompany meals of steamed fish. Pay very close attention to the brewing guidelines for this tea or you will end up with a cup that may be far less enjoyable than you planned.

Gyokuro contains around 35 milligrams of caffeine per 8 ounce cup. This can definitely act as a healthier stimulant, but you should first try drinking this tea early in the day as the high caffeine levels could affect your sleeping routine. It is also not suggested to give this tea to children without speaking to a doctor.
