Tea Powered by the Rowan Tree!

Our magical juniper berry tea is warm and earthy with a citrus-like finish that reminds us of shopping for trees during the holidays. In fact, it would be perfect if you wanted to take a break while walking in the woods, looking for that perfect tree. Or, sitting on your couch watching the first snowfall of the season. Sign us up for a gigantic magical mug that fills itself, please!

In Discovery of Witches, Diana weaves a Rowan Tree which symbolizes life, protection, and creation of woman. The Rowan tree is steeped in mythology and lore from the British Isles to Scandinavia, reaching back centuries. The berries from the tree have five points like a pentagram, and when the tree grew by a dwelling, it was said to protect that dwelling.

Unfortunately, we were not able to use the fruit of the Rowan tree for this blend. Instead, we have filled our Juniper Berry Tea with Juniper Berries and cedar tree tips to give it that woody feeling. We have also added hibiscus which gives the brew a lovely color, cinnamon, orange peels, cloves, cardamom, and star anise for a warm flavor profile. We then included gold sugar crystals to represent the beautiful golden magic of the Rowan tree weaved by Diana (Book 2/Season 2 of the tv series).

Juniper berries aren't actually berries. They resemble berries, but are a cones that come from the Juniper plant or tree. They can be mistaken for blueberries if you aren't looking closely. They are commonly used as a spice as they impart a slight bitter-citrusy flavor. The Greeks used them for medicinal purposes and the Romans used them like pepper. There isn't a lot of research that has been done yet on these little gems, but what has been done so far shows that they have high antioxidant properties. They are also being used to create essential oils to use as a natural antiseptic and to treat skin conditions. What a versatile little berry?cone?

Note: We recommend that you refrain from adding milk or cream to this Juniper Berry Tea blend, due to the hibiscus.

I really love the cedar and juniper in this tea! Unfortunately the hibiscus quickly overcomes the cedar/juniper and becomes the dominate flavor in this blend, which is very disappointing:( Great for hibiscus lovers, though!
