Milk Oolong with an Irresistible Creamy Flavor

Milk Oolong is a flavored Oolong tea from Taiwan. Milk Oolong is a common name for the Jin Xuan variety of Taiwanese oolong. It was created in the 1980’s as a new tea cultivar, and because of its naturally creamy body and mild sweetness, Milk Oolong became the most known name for this variety.

Jin Xuan Oolong from Taiwan is famous for its naturally thick and creamy body and mild sweetness and its completely natural cream flavor and aroma. This particular variety of Milk Oolong is inspired by the Jin Xuan tea but is a flavored Oolong, meaning it has been enhanced through aromatization with natural milk flavoring. Years ago, the name ‘Milk Oolong’ referred to tea that had sweeteners added, and milk flavorings. Somehow a bizarre rumor started floating around that ‘milk’ oolong meant that they used actual milk in the production of this tea or they somehow infused the tea leaves with milk during harvesting. That is completely untrue. Taiwanese oolongs are never produced using any dairy product. If you ever come across a Milk Oolong that states it contains dairy products of some sort, steer clear.

Oolong tea is a mildly oxidized tea. Many consider it somewhere between a green tea and a black tea. Generally, oolong teas are less oxidized but different varieties have wildly different oxidation levels ranging from 8% to 80%. A lower oxidized oolong will have less caffeine than a highly oxidized variety. Oolong tea leaves are also curled, rolled, or even twisted into spindles or balls.

Be sure to adhere to the recommended brewing instructions, and don’t be afraid to re-steep this tea multiple times, it will provide you many cups of incredible creamy flavor and butter like aroma.

Milk Oolong

O. My. GAWD. This stuff is remarkable!! Seriously, I can (and have!) sing it's praises from sunup to sundown, but that would interfere with my tea drinking. This tea tastes like cream, and smells like sweet butter. No bitterness, just a wondrous mix of light, almost ethereal, yet creamy-full taste. I know, sounds like gibberish, but honestly, this oolong defies explanation. One tea ball full will make 3 cups, at least. Try this one, you won't be sorry. Or don't...more for me!
