Like Free Magic, this Tea Blend is a Force of Nature!

Inspired by Sabriel, The Old Kingdom, Book 1, this dark, bourbon-y, robust, and smoky tea blend with cashews will at least ensure that you have had a delicious cup of tea to warm your bones before dealing with Free Magic and the Dead who won't stay that way in the Old Kingdom.

"Everything moved rapidly after the tea was drunk." --Garth Nix, Sabriel

The slight smoky essence you will taste in our Free Magic blend is courtesy of a little Lapsang Souchong mixed in with our black tea. In fact, the underlying flavors of this blend remind us of a Russian breakfast tea.

Lapsang Souchong tea, commonly referred to as 'smoked tea' is from the Fujian Province in China. These tea leaves go through a second drying in bamboo sieves that are exposed to smoked pine. This results in a very unique and distinct flavor profile and is an acquired taste for many as it's campfire-smokiness can be overwhelming. We think that this smoky tea blend has just the right amount to give it a slight toastiness. Cacao nibs add a little hint of chocolate flavor, and delicious cashew brittle pieces (cashews, forn sugar, honey, molasses, salt) round out the blend with a bit of sweet nuttiness. The butterfly pea flowers are just to add color to the dry tea and don't really have much of a color-changing impact on the brewed tea. So, don't buy it just for these little blue flowers.

Now, imagine this slightly smoky, chocolatey, nutty tea being stored in a bourbon whiskey barrel. That is the last bit of flavor essence you will taste in our Free Magic blend. It has a smooth finish that reminds us of a fine whiskey cask. Now, if that doesn't make you want to try a giant cup of this blend, try it with a shot of whiskey, and thank us later! And if you're looking for something with even more of a bourbon presence, be sure to check out our Night in the Glittering Caves blend.

The flavor profile is hard to describe beyond “magic”, because that’s truly what it tastes like. A little floral, a little smoky, a little sweet, a little nutty. Delicious both hot and iced. Just the magic I needed today.

This a tea I wouldn't have typically purchase cuz it has Lapsang Souchong, a smokey black tea which I don't care for. But "Free Magic" was in the March subscription box so I gave it a try and O.M.Gosh, no heavy smokiness, just deliciousness! I bought the bigger bag!! LOL

I bought this for a friend to sample some Happy Turtle Tea and she seems to have enjoyed it.
