A Jack White Inspired Black Tea
This tea blend is inspired by Jack White’s ‘Sixteen Saltines’ released in 2012. This blend is actually a custom tea blend requested by a friend of my daughters, for a Christmas gift. We were trying to create a blend similar to the discontinued Numi chocolate earl grey tea blend.
We hope that other earl grey tea lovers would like this blend as well. The delightful blend of chocolate, creamy vanilla, and bergamot is a wild, fun, and decadent twist on an Earl Grey. You will definitely want to try this with a bit of milk for the perfect creamy concoction.
Did you know that Bergamot is actually a citrus fruit? Yes, really. Bergamot is a citrus fruit that comes from the tropical Citrus bergamia plant, which is common in the Mediterranean. It is similar in size to an orange but looks more like a lime in color. Bergamot is a good source of potassium and vitamins C, B1, B2, and A. Bergamot oil is extracted from the rind and is what gives Earl Grey it’s distinct flavor and aroma. In Europe, bergamot is used as flavoring for cookies, syrups, cocktails, and is even served as a condiment. Who knew? You can also try diffusing bergamot oil to decrease your stress levels. Try this while you are drinking a nice hot cup of Black Hat, White Shoes, for the ultimate Earl Grey experience!
If you aren’t a fan of chocolate in your Earl Grey, we have other Earl Grey blends that you might prefer. Take a look at The Seventh Doctor and Thru the Standing Stones. For those that are really don’t like the strong aroma and flavor of bergamot, we have many other teas that may be your perfect cup.

I absolutely love this tea! It gives just the right amount of chocolately flavor that makes it go great with many cookies and other sweets. Add a bit of sweetened almond milk and you have yourself an amazing tea!

Have I got a story for you…I brewed a cup of this to enjoy one morning before a carpool to work. I added honey and some milk. About the time I was going to enjoy my tea (expecting that I had 10 more minutes) I got a text that my ride was going to be there in a couple of minutes… So I hurried and dumped it into my travel cup that was full of ice. Can I just let you know…. This tea is WONDERFUL as an iced tea! Thanks Andrea for another lovely creation.
