Perfect Tea and Book Pairings
Do you ever try to find the perfect tea to go with the book you are reading? Some of our blends are inspired by–and pair perfectly–with a book. Others just fit so perfectly with a book that we can’t help but gravitate toward them while we read. Here are some of our favorite books and their perfect pairings right now.
“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”
C.S. Lewis
Persuasion by Jane Austen & A Letter for Anne
Naval officer Captain Wentworth is back in Anne Elliot’s life–eight years after she was persuaded to reject his marriage proposal and break her beloved’s heart. One of the works published after her death, Jane Austen’s Persuasion showcases a second chance at love and the subtlety found in female rage.
Our tea, “A Letter for Anne,” was inspired by the brave and dashing Captain Wentworth who sailed off with the Navy to make something of himself. Much like the Captain himself, this tea is bold. With a combination of black and green tea and a blend of lime and lemon with a hint of grapefruit, this tea is wonderfully tart with a citrus kick.
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn & Alchemy and Destiny
After the recent loss of her mother, 16-year-old Bree Matthews tries to escape her childhood home by joining an early college program. But she never imagined she’d be running into a world of flying demons, magic, and a secret society full of descendants of King Arthur and his knights. But as Bree uncovers her own magic, she discovers there is more to her mother’s death than she initially thought–and that this world of “Legendborn” might just be the key to finding out the truth.
“Alchemy & Destiny” is a blend that was actually inspired by another book, A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Much like A Discovery of Witches, Legendborn explores learning to accept who you are and just how powerful that can make you. A rich Pu-erh black tea blended with nutty pistachio and vibrant papaya gives this tea a complex flavor profile that will make you feel as though you have tapped into your own magic.
The Cartographers by Peng Shepard & English Breakfast Extra Fancy
When Nell Young’s father–a famous cartographer–is found dead, Nell’s life is completely changed. She finds the old map– the one that caused her father to ruin her own career–hidden in his desk. In trying to learn more about the map, Nell finds herself deep into a dangerous investigation that might just reveal a dark family secret. A mystery with the perfect sprinkle of fantasy, The Cartographers will pull you in from the first page–won’t let you go until the last.
Much like the art of cartography, English breakfast tea has been around for a long time. Our “English Breakfast Extra Fancy” has a rich and bold flavor that is hearty without being bitter, a This traditional scholarly tea is the type of drink librarians will have to calm themselves down after stumbling upon a mysterious murder. Blended with different types of black tea, this tea has just the right amount of caffeine to keep you going while you ponder the mysteries of the world… and maybe even other dimensions.
Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson & Gnome Saliva
Have you ever just been so overwhelmed with what life throws at you that you decide to be happy out of spite? A memoir that is part humorous anecdotes, part serious reflection, Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things is an intimate look into life with chronic illness. It shows us that not only is it okay to laugh about it, but often, it’s encouraged.
Naturally caffeine-free, Gnome Saliva is the perfect tea to drink at any time of the day–even if it’s the middle of the night and you can’t sleep so you try to force your cat to give your taxidermied raccoon a piggyback ride. This herbal tea is also packed full of helpful ingredients like lemon grass for inflammation, lavender for relaxation, and apples and oranges for some vitamin C–just enough to give you a boost so you can look at what life is throwing at you…and laugh in spite.
